Varypatades Village Corfu (also spelt Varipatades) is a historic hillside village nestled on the slopes of a hill in central-west Corfu, approximately 160 metres above sea level. Officially designated as a preserved settlement, it offers an authentic glimpse into the island’s past, with elegant Venetian-era architecture, grand mansions, traditional stone houses and charming cobbled alleyways.
Home to fewer than 300 permanent residents, Varypatades has remained largely untouched by mass tourism, retaining its peaceful atmosphere and timeless character. Surrounded by ancient olive groves and slender cypress trees, the village enjoys breathtaking views across central Corfu towards the island’s dramatic west coast.

Varypatades Village is located in central-west Corfu, approximately 11 km west of Corfu Town and around 10 km from Corfu International Airport.
Set at about 160 metres above sea level, the village sits on a hillside between Kalafationes and Pelekas, overlooking olive groves and the rural landscapes of central Corfu. How to Get to Varypatades
There are two main driving routes to reach the village, both similar in distance and travel time from the airport and Corfu Town.
Route 1: Via Alepou (Most Common Route)
- From Corfu Town or the airport, follow signs towards Pelekas.
- Drive through Alepou and continue towards Triklino.
- You will see a signpost directing you to Kalafationes and Varypatades.
- Take this turning and follow the road uphill to the village.
This is the most straightforward and commonly used route.
Route 2: Via Kanalia / Viros
- Follow the signs onwards to Varypatades.
- Follow the road towards Achilleion Palace.
- On your right, you will see a turning signposted for Viros, Varypatades and Kalafationes.
- Continue past Viros and Kalafationes.
- Follow the signs onwards to Varypatades.
🚗 Quick Tip – Parking in Varypatades
If your accommodation doesn’t offer private parking, it’s best to park at the entrance of the village, where there is usually plenty of space. The village lanes are narrow in places, and parking inside can be tricky, with a risk of minor scrapes, especially for rental cars. Walking in is often the easiest and safest option.

- 🚗 By Car (Recommended): Hiring a car is the easiest way to stay in Varypatades. The roads are good, though narrow in places. Parking is available at each entrance of the village.
- 🚌 By Bus: There is limited public bus service from Corfu Town (Blue Bus No 18). However, services is low-frequency, so check the local timetable in advance. The bus stops at the entrance of the village as the roads are too narrow.
- 🚕 By Taxi: A taxi from Corfu Town or Airport takes about 20 minutes.

My Big Fat Greek Wedding 3
In 2023, Varypatades found itself in the international spotlight when it was selected as one of the key filming locations for My Big Fat Greek Wedding 3, the third instalment of the beloved romantic comedy franchise.
Production designer Grant Armstrong spent weeks travelling across Corfu in search of a village that captured the spirit of Greece’s rural past looking for “a real, rural village that had seen harder times, and people had moved out.” Varypatades, with its faded feudal grandeur and authentic character, was an obvious choice.
I Wedding 4n the film, Varypatades appears primarily in aerial drone shots and in scenes where Toula and Ian look out from a balcony over the landscape. The village’s distinctive church with its red-topped tower is clearly visible, as are the narrow alleys and the tiny village square with its metal bench. Director Nia Vardalos personally thanked the village of Varypatades for their warm hospitality during filming.

Varypatades is a traditional residential village and has no commercial infrastructure. It’s important to buy any essentials — water, groceries, snacks, toiletries, sunscreen etc. before arriving, either in Corfu Town or along the main roads on the way to the village.
