If you’re visiting Corfu during the summer, experiencing a panigiri (traditional Greek festival) is a must. These vibrant celebrations combine religion, music, dancing, and local food, offering an authentic glimpse into Corfiot culture.

This guide includes a complete timetable of Corfu panigiria and festivals, organised by month, along with tips to help you enjoy them like a local.

What is a Panigiri?

A panigiri is a traditional Greek festival, usually held in honour of a saint but can also include a religious event e.g. Ascension). Festivals also take place to commemorate events like harvest, local produce e.g. sardine or wine festivals as well as cultural song and dance festivals. They often include:

  • Religious processions
  • Live Greek music and dancing
  • Local food and wine
  • Community celebrations late into the night

In Corfu, panigiria start after Easter, with the first one traditionally being in Makrades taking place across villages, towns, and monasteries throughout the summer.
