Kanoni Corfu

About Kanoni Corfu

Kanoni Corfu is not a traditional resort town but rather a historic, picturesque peninsula just beyond Corfu Town, known for offering one of Greece’s most famous postcard views. Calm, elegant, and full of charm, it’s a beloved local neighbourhood and a definite must-see for anyone visiting Corfu.

Kanoni, whose name comes from the Greek word for “cannon,” traces its title back to the French artillery installed here in 1798—one of which still stands proudly in the square beside the cafés. From this viewpoint, visitors are treated to a breathtaking panorama of the Vlacherna Monastery, a charming whitewashed chapel perched on a narrow causeway, framed perfectly by the legendary Pontikonisi (Mouse Island). Adding to its unique appeal, Kanoni Corfu sits close to Corfu Airport, offering the surprising thrill of watching planes pass by very low as they takeoff and landing.

Don’t be Misled by the Map – Kanoni Is Not Walking Distance from Corfu Airport

At a glance, Kanoni looks very close to Corfu Airport as it sits just across from the runway. For this reason some visitors choose accommodation in Kanoni for late night arrivals, assuming they can walk from the airport or take a quick, low-cost transfer.

In reality, despite the short distance ‘as the crow flies’, the road network makes the trip considerably longer. Reaching Kanoni by road is around 3–5 km, depending on the exact location on its one-way system. There is no direct public transport from the airport, and a taxi typically costs around €20. Walking is not practical or recommended, especially with luggage or young children.
